Good, Great, Growing

When taking core values as an idea and applying them to reality, it is important to have something to strive towards but be achievable as well. Blumer’s core values “Good, Great, Growing” is a perfect example of this principle in action. They are clear and easy to understand and help not only on an individual level but also companywide when everyone is working towards these values. Let’s dive deeper and look at each one individually.

Good to others

Being good to others is what we learned as the golden rule in school and is the right way to act in most situations. Being respectful and courteous is practical in everyday life but is also very beneficial in the work environment. Being good to others helps with everyday work interactions; embodying kindness, empathy, and respect in our interactions builds strong relationships with clients, partners, and employees alike.

Dealing with a happy client or coworker you’ve built a healthy working relationship with is much better than trying to deal with an unhappy one. A healthy work environment, where your leadership team promotes this attitude, is very important for employee collaboration and productivity to thrive.

Having the foundation of something as simple as being good to others and treating others as you’d like to be treated can really take a business a long way in a great direction…which leads into our next value.

Great at what we do

Blumer is a company that holds itself to a high standard; the production output of each team member is expected to be white glove service. You cannot provide that kind of service unless each team member is pushing to be great at what they do.

If each employee starts out the day with the intent of being better than the day before, it is reflected in the work they do. Of course no one is perfect, but the process of chasing perfection leads us to be the best we can be at the service we provide. This translates to a competitive edge over less reliable companies providing similar services.

Blumer CPA as a company would not be able to promise potential customers white glove service if the work provided is below or even merely equal to industry standards. The whole team needs to be great at what we do, no matter how daunting the task may seem. This commitment to produce consistently quality work enhances reputation and can attract and capture new clients.

Always Growing

The second core value is really boosted by this third one in my eyes. As already mentioned, the process of chasing perfection leads us to be the best we can be at the service we provide; that is growth in action.

The moment you’ve accepted that you are “good enough” and no longer need to learn is the moment others leave you in the dust. Perfection is unachievable, but that should not hinder any of us from trying each day to get as close to it as we realistically can. The world changes, general expectations change, the industries we work in change; due to these facts there is always something new to learn, some new step you’ve never taken, a work experience never faced.

That is why we should constantly be growing on an individual level and as a whole team. Growth is imperative for companies working to reach short and long-term goals. In all honesty, ongoing professional development is the only way to survive as a person, as an employee, and as a company in this ever-evolving business landscape.

Being good to others, great at what we do, and always growing are fundamental principles that represent our business philosophy. They reflect our dedication to excellence and our determination to make a positive impact on the world. Together, these values guide our actions and ensure that we continue to thrive and achieve unprecedented success.
