Hey class, word of the day. You know you like word of the day. Today’s word of the day is marketing. You know what marketing is? It’s a job. It’s a job with a whole butt load of tasks in it you’ve got to do over and over and over consistently.

Now you want to make sure you’re targeting the right people, but marketing is this realm that you may be able to train and teach somebody that’s administrative to do some of this stuff for you.

Now marketing, though, can get very complex. It could be constant, consistent sharing of your blog and your content online. It could be making your videos better by putting captioning in them, which is what we want to do. Marketing, it is a job and it is something you have to do over and over. You have to put it on your calendar. Somebody has to do it every single week, every Tuesday. Ours is every Monday afternoon. I do a lot of the marketing. But we have help with other people doing marketing too. So marketing is, maybe creating the content’s not marketing. So you can create content and ebooks and give those out. Marketing is actually pushing it out on a consistent basis, letting people know hey, it’s out there, shared on social media, sending newsletters, filling up your newsletter or your email list, making sure that’s growing with the right people.

But marketing, it is just a job and it takes time, takes a lot of consistency. You can get frustrated with marketing because you can really push a lot of things through marketing and get no benefit. That’s why there are digital marketing agencies that really hone in and make sure they’re doing the marketing well.

Now you may not need to pay somebody to do marketing just yet because generally you’re just hitting, you’re doing pretty well in your business and so you’re just hitting these general positioning of people that you know. But now, when you have some high value thing and you’re required to get sales in in a particular way, then marketing may become more valuable. You may need an expert to do a different type of marketing, some kind of PPC or ads or SEO, or just the administrative tasks of social sharing or using tools to do the social sharing for you.

But marketing is just a job. Somebody’s got to do it. It’s got to be on your calendar. And if you’re not doing it, here’s the thing. It’s part of spinning that fly wheel, right? A fly wheel is this very heavy thing that takes a lot to turn. But once you get this fly wheel spinning, you can just tap it every now and then and it keeps it going.

Marketing’s like that. Initially when you start doing a lot of marketing, it takes a lot of work to actually get this marketing fly wheel going so people start seeing you. And I think after probably six months, eight months to a year is when you start to see the benefits of all the marketing you’ve been doing consistently.

So don’t get frustrated when you’re trying to do marketing and nobody’s responding. It will eventually happen and you’ll hone your skills in marketing. You’ll get better at it. You’ll stop doing wasteful things and you’ll start doing more targeted things toward a very specific positioned client that you want to be in front of. You can target specific types of services, a lot of different things you can do in marketing.

Just don’t get frustrated, but it is something you have to do over and over and over and over consistently, and I would say weekly. It is a job and somebody has to do the job. So if you’re not, six months later, you’re going to go oh crap, we didn’t do marketing and we’re running out of clients. We’re running out of cash. That’s what’s going to happen. So don’t get yourself in trouble six months, eight months, 12 months later by not doing marketing now consistently for six months, eight months, 12 months.
